Joyce Guenther

Joyce Verna Bartos Guenther was born on June 23, 1943 in Glenwood, MN to Frank and Verna Bartos. After High School, she went on to graduate from nursing school in Willmar, MN. She brought love and comfort to everyone she met. Her nursing career started at Lady of Mercy Hospital in Alexandria in 1962. She met Jerry Guenther and on October 26, 1964 they married. They celebrated 55 years together.

Joyce and Jerry moved to Wadena, MN in 1964 and it is there they welcomed their three children, Nancy, Sheila and Kevin. In addition to motherhood, Joyce worked in nursing at Wesley Hospital and later Tri-County Hospital in Wadena.

In 1977 Joyce and Jerry moved their family to Alexandria, MN. Here, Joyce worked for Bethany Home for 13 years and Douglas County Hospital for a number of years following that. After her retirement, Joyce managed her daughter and son-in-law’s chiropractic clinic for 14 years.

She is survived by her husband, Jerry, children, Nancy (Greg) Klepetka, Sheila (Kurt) Bieberbach, Kevin (Jenny) Guenther, Grandchildren, Abbey (Stas) Spiridonov, Chelsea (Luke) Coles, Elise and Adam Klepetka, Amanda (Ryan) Wilson, Matt (Heather) Bieberbach, Kalee Guenther, Danika (Scott) Fischer, Great Grandchildren, Bryce, Connor, Nathan Wilson, Madison Bieberbach, Tristan Spiridonov.

If you opened your heart to Joyce, she gave you hers, along with her smile, laughter and hugs. You know she loved you if you have a special Joyce story, because she was someone extraordinary. Most people have more than one of those memories. Joyce died on November 22, 2019 following complications from a stroke. She was surrounded by her loving family. A private immediate family service will be held at a later date.
