Julian Kvanbek

Julian ?Jay? Kvanbek was born on September 28, 1934, in Montevideo, Minnesota the son of Jacob and Linnie (Anderson) Kvanbek. The family farmed near Minneota, Minnesota where he spent his childhood. In 1957, he was drafted in the United States Army and was stationed in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Jay was Honorably Discharged in 1959. He founded Northwest Property Adjusting in 1971. In 1962, Jay was married to Pat Whelan. The couple purchased land outside of Delano, Minnesota on the Crow River. Jay built their home near Delano, Minnesota overlooking the Crow River. This is where they raised their two sons. Jay was an avid hunter and fisherman often accompanied by his sons, relatives and friends. He was a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association. After Jay retired in 1997, he pursued woodworking hobbies making walking sticks and canes, selling them at craft fairs. He was noted for his beautiful Diamond Willow Canes. Jay enjoyed gardening, and recently he had been propagating a new variety of apple tree recently working with a nursery to possibly commercialize it. Jay rekindled his hobby of gun-smithing and was working on an article on his ?scout rifles.? He also loved playing with his grandkids. We will miss you Jay ? Husband, Dad, Dadoo, Grandpa and father-in-law, and most of all friend. Mr. Kvanbek died on Friday, April 25, 2008. He is survived by his wife, Patricia (Whelan) Kvanbek of Brandon/Evansville area; sons: Greg Kvanbek & wife, Cara of Red Wing, Minnesota, Brad Kvanbek & wife Laura of Medina, Minnesota; grandchildren: Jacob, Josie and Gaston Kvanbek; Sisters: Doreen Brouillette of Minneapolis, Doris & husband, Bob Miller of Albert Lea, MN. He was preceded in death by his parents: Jacob in 1976 and Linnie in 1988. Memorial service was held on Thursday, May 1, 2008, 1:00 p.m. at the Anderson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Barb Thompson officiating. Arrangements are with the Anderson Funeral Home.
