June was born on June 28, 1922, the 5th of 8 children born to Paul and Sophie (Heubner) Zahl, in Morris, MN. After graduating from Morris High School she spent two years in nurses training before marrying Warren C. Dahl on Jan. 16, 1943 in Bradenton, FL. She and Warren then spent the next 28 years traveling the world, with three children in tow, courtesy of the US Air Force. They retired to Minnesota and settled into an idyllic home on Lake Carlos in 1977, where they spent many years gardening, fishing and playing with grandchildren until moving to the Senator in Alexandria in 2004. June expressed her creativity through painting ceramics, sewing, and needlework. Her loving family members continue to proudly display the fruits of her labor, including poinsettia napkin rings and refrigerator magnets. June is survived by her husband of 66 years, Warren Sr., son Douglas (Pam) of Richmond, TX and daughter Diane (Stewart) Leavitt of Glenview, IL; 8 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren; sisters Marian Gilbertson and Nancy (Harold) Byrne. She was preceded in death by son, Warren Jr, her parents, and 5 siblings. Funeral services were held on Saturday, November 15, 2008, 11:00 a.m. at Bethesda Lutheran Church with Rev. Neal Olson officiating. Pallbearers were Jonothan Dahl, Nicholas Dahl, Stewart Leavitt, Joshua Dahl. Burial was at Carlos Prairie Cemetery in Carlos, Minnesota.
