Memorial services for Karen Rae Doty will be held Thursday, August 24, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria, Minnesota with Pastor Don Wilke officiating. Visitation will take place Wednesday, August 23, 2023 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at the funeral home, as well as one hour prior to services on Thursday. Burial will be at Hudson Cemetery near Forada after the luncheon on Thursday.
Karen Rae (Diedrick) Doty was born on August 8, 1944 in Woodstock, Illinois to Roy and Mildred (Kolberg) Diedrick. She graduated from Huntly High School in 1962 and then began working at the local newspaper as well as Lee Wards.
Karen was united in marriage to Roger Doty on January 30, 1965 in Union, Illinois. In 1966, the couple moved to Sartell, Minnesota, and a few years later relocated to Garfield. In 1970, Karen and Roger moved to Alexandria where Karen worked at Woolworths and Schwartzwald, which later became Juettner Motors. Karen eventually became employed at Douglas County License Bureau, where she retired in June of 2009.
Together, Karen and Roger enjoyed their retirement together hunting and fishing until Karen's health diminished three years before Roger's passing in 2014. In 2011, Karen was diagnosed with Alzheimer's Disease. No longer able to do her favorite activities on her own - hunting, fishing, bowling, baking pies, and canning - Karen moved to Glenwood Retirement Village in Glenwood, Minnesota. She remained there until shortly before her passing.
Karen passed away surrounded by her family on August 17, 2023 at Alomere Health Center in Alexandria; she was 79 years old. She is survived by her children: Scott (Michele) Doty of Alexandria, Becky (Randy) Petersen of Kensington; grandchildren: Kaylee, Riley, Rachel, Bryce, Jeffrey, and Camden; step-grandchildren: Kimberly and Kori; great-grandchildren: Ripley, Duncan, Frejya, Easton, Aiden, Lexi, Kiarra, Aaliyah, Ema, Mallorie, Caspian, and Hendrix; sisters: Marlene Marshall, Judy (Bill) Shotliff, Bonnie (Dick) Engel; brother, Rick (Deb) Diedrick; sister-in-law, Kathy Doty; as well as many other beloved family and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, Mildred and Roy Diedrick; her husband, Roger; and brother-in-law, Dick Marshall.
