Kathleen Jeanette Lowe was born on March 5, 1921, in Milaca, Minnesota, the daughter of John & Frances (Anderson) Lowe. She graduated from high school in Motley, Minnesota in 1938 and from Hamline University in St. Paul, Minnesota with a bachelor's degree in English in 1942.
In July 1942, Kathleen married Roscoe Haining. For the first two years of their marriage Kathleen and Roscoe lived in Idaho and Oregon, where Kathleen taught English. The couple returned to Minnesota in 1944, and Kathleen worked for Montgomery Ward and Northwest Orient Airlines while Roscoe earned a Bachelor's Degree at the University of Minnesota. In 1946, they moved to the Panama Canal Zone, where Roscoe taught school and Kathleen served as organist at their church and raised four children. The family returned to Minnesota in 1955 and lived in Fairmont, Monticello and Appleton before moving to Alexandria in November of 1964, due to Roscoe's appointment as pastor of the Alexandria United Methodist Church.
Kathleen was a very active and involved member of the United Methodist Church at large, having served in leadership roles at both the state and national levels. She traveled to Brazil, Haiti, and England to carry out those responsibilities. In addition, she served as a member of the Alexandria School Board and assisted Roscoe with his real estate business after he changed careers in 1968.
Kathleen died on Wednesday, September 21, 2016, at Knute Nelson Care Center. She is survived by her son, Bruce & wife, Shelley Haining; three daughters: Kathleen & husband, Bruce Pohlig, Margaret Haining, Carol & husband, Peter Egan; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Roscoe; parents, five siblings and their spouses.
Memorial service will be held on Monday, September 26, 2016, 11:00 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Alexandria. Arrangements are with the Anderson Funeral Home. www.andersonfuneral.net
