Kenneth Guenther, age 80, of Alexandria, died Friday, November 20, 2015. A funeral service will be held at 12 Noon Tuesday, November 24, 2015 at the Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria. Interment will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Alexandria. Visitation will be from 10 AM to 12 Noon Tuesday at the funeral home.
OBITUARY
Kenneth Harvey Guenther was born June 19, 1935 in Alexandria, MN, the son of Theodore and Esther (Zarbok) Guenther. He was raised on a farm near Alexandria where he attended school.
Ken moved to St. Paul, MN and worked at various jobs before becoming the custodian at St. Thomas Academy. Ken met Margaret Kasel in St. Paul and the two were united in marriage on February 14, 1963. They made their home in West St. Paul and were blessed with six children.
Ken and Margaret moved to Alexandria in 1974 and he began as a custodian at the Church of St. Mary in Alexandria. After many years at St. Mary’s Ken retired in 1997. Ken enjoyed doing woodworking. He loved the outdoors and liked to go camping with his family. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing. Ken liked to volunteer his time to whoever might be in need; he was always willing to lend a hand.
On Friday, November 20, 2015 Ken died at the age of eighty years. He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Guenther; stepson, David Kasel; parents Theodore Guenther and Esther Guenther Anderson; and brothers, Elroy and Marvin. Ken is survived by children, Bonnie (Jim) Erickson, Donna Kasel, Ted (Luann) Guenther, Emily (Don Erickson) Meyer and Terese (Wayne) Geiger; brothers, Clinton (Kay) and David (Diann); sister, Maryann (Tony) Rassat; several grandchildren; great grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
A funeral service was held Tuesday, November 24, 2015 at Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria. Interment followed in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers included Clinton Guenther, David Guenther, Maryann Rassat, Jim Erickson, Luann Guenther, Wayne Geiger and Don Erickson.
