Kylene Karol Martwick was born September 29, 1960 in Minot, ND, the daughter of Loren and Alice (Enge) Martwick. She was raised and schooled in Balfour, ND. Kylene graduated from Balfour High School in 1978. Kylene attended the University of Minnesota in Crookston in the Light Horse Management Program. Following her education she worked for horse trainers in Comfrey, MN and Willmar, MN. In Willmar, she also worked for a township mutual insurance company. While she was in Willmar, Kylene met Dr. Kent Nelson when he came out to examine one of her horses. On January 2, 1988 Kylene and Kent were united in marriage. In 1991 they moved to Brandon, MN where they made their home. The couple was blessed with two children, Kristina and Kyle. Kylene worked for the Moe, Urness, Lund Insurance Company. For the last two years she worked as a para-professional for school district 206. Kylene loved horses. She has owned her own horses since age twelve. Kylene worked with Morgans and Pintos and was a member of the Minnesota Pinto Horse Association. She served as a youth leader for the 4-H club and the Pony Club. Throughout the years, Kylene mentored many children regarding horses and riding. What Kylene loved most was her family and her two children. On Thursday, September 13, 2012 Kylene died at the age of fifty-one years. She is survived by her husband, Kent Nelson of Brandon; daughter, Kristina Nelson of Brandon; son, Kyle Nelson of Brandon; parents Loren and Alice Martwick of Alexandria, MN, special cousin, Valerie Dockter of Parks, AZ; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Jody and Ron Lanners of Fort Collins, CO; brother-in-law, Bradley Nelson of Williston, ND; niece, Tonya Lanners; and nephews, Bret Lanners and Cody Nelson. Kylene was preceded in death by her father-in-law and mother-in law, Dennis and Ardis Nelson. A funeral service was held Monday, September 17, 2012 at Chippewa Lutheran Church in Brandon. Reverend Michael Johnson officiated. Diann Guenther provided music. Interment followed in the Mound Grove Cemetery in Evansville, MN. Casket bearers included Bradley Nelson, Cody Nelson, Ron Lanners, Jody Lanners, Allan Martwick and Marlys Martwick. Arrangements were with the Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria.
