LARRY L. HARTWELL Larry Lee Hartwell was born on February 3, 1954 in Mason City, IA, the son of Larry and Margaret (Snook) Hartwell. He graduated from Mason City High School and then into the United States Marine Corp. During Larry?s time in the Marines he attained the rank of Corporal and was a guard at the United State Embassy in Pakistan. Larry returned to Iowa after his father death and began working for the Chicago Bridge and Iron Company and then as a painter for Water Tower Paint and Repair Company. Larry worked as a painter for Rainbow Inc. for the last 15 years and had lived in Milwaukee for the last seven years. Larry married Alida Metcalf on August 29, 1979 in Minneapolis, MN. Together they soon moved to Alexandria and began their family, having four sons, Ben, Lucas, Josh, and Jared. Larry enjoyed attending his son?s school activities and helped them prepare for go-cart races in the summer. He liked to hunt, ice fish, and play golf. He also liked playing cards, especially cribbage. He enjoyed watching old westerns, listening to Johnny Cash music, and following his beloved Green Bay Packers football team. Larry L. Hartwell died on Saturday, September 5, 2009 in Alexandria, MN. He is survived by his sons Ben Hartwell of Alexandria, Lucas (Kelly) Hartwell of Alexandria, Josh (Tanya) Hartwell of Alexandria and Jared Hartwell of Alexandria; granddaughter Anyia Ries of Minneapolis, MN and expecting grandson Vincent Hartwell; brother Darrell Hartwell of Mason City Iowa; sisters Cathy Fox of Mason City, Iowa and Debbie Austin of Mason City, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents. A Memorial Service was held on Monday, September 15, 2009 at 1PM at the Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria, MN with the Reverend Harold Knutson officiating. Military Honors were performed by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #936 and the American Legion Post #87 of Alexandria.
