MARILYNN LOIS TORRENS Marilynn was born on March 31, 1927 in Sheldon Iowa the daughter of Otto and Alice (Gaster) Van Dyke. She graduated from Sheldon High School in the class of 1945. She then married Kenneth Dougherty on July 3, 1945 in Sheldon, Iowa. Together they had three children Patricia, Michael, and Dixie. In 1954, Marilynn and her family moved to Glenwood, MN where she began to work for Glenwood Retirement Village as a housemother from 1963 until 1981. She helped the staff and enjoyed visiting with residents. Marilynn married Charles Torrens on January 10, 1981 in Glenwood, MN. After their marriage, they moved to Bloomington, MN, then to Champlin, MN, and in 1991 moved to a home they built on Lake Latoka, near Alexandria. Marilynn was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and proud great grandmother. She was a great cook and enjoyed canning vegetables. She always had good sound advice for her family and friends. One of Marilynn?s passions was animals. She volunteered many hours with her husband Charles at the Humane Society. She walked pets and brought pets to nursing home to visit the residents and also to Alexandria Opportunity Center for the clients to enjoy as well. She will be missed by those who knew and loved her. Marilynn Torrens died on Wednesday, January 7, 2009 at Peaceful Bliss Assisted Living Center in Alexandria at the age of 81 years. She is survived by her husband Charles Torrens of Alexandria; daughter Patricia and James Ficke of Champlin, MN; son Michael and Denise Dougherty of Glenwood, MN; daughter Dixie and Kenneth Wersinger of Alexandria; grandchildren Luke Dougherty of Duluth, MN; Samuel Dougherty of Fargo, ND; Meagan Dougherty and Fianc� Justin Paumen of Fargo, ND; Austin Dougherty of Glenwood, MN; Hunter Dougherty, of Glenwood, MN; Ryan Wersinger of Alexandria; Lisa Wersinger of Alexandria; Brandi Wersinger of Alexandria; Nathanie1 Ficke of Champlin, MN; great granddaughter Amelia Dougherty of Duluth, MN; 2 nieces Cindi and Don Peterson of Hopkins, MN; Susan and Mark Schumann of Glenwood, MN. Marilynn was preceded in death by her parents, sister Joyce Goodyear, nephew L Jay Goodyear, and loving pet Sheba. A funeral service was held on Saturday, January 10, 2009 at Calvary Lutheran Church with the Reverend Mark Astrup officiating. Sandy Buckner played the piano. Interment was in Glenwood City Cemetery. Casket Bearers were Marilynn?s grandsons. Honorary Casket Bearers were Marilynn?s granddaughters and great granddaughter. Arrangements were with the Anderson Funeral Home.
