LaJune Mercedes Hausken

December 23, 1930 — April 15, 2025

Alexandria

LaJune Mercedes (Toft) Hausken was born on December 23rd, 1930, to Alvin and Marian (Zaviska) Toft in Ida Township. She was raised on the farm and helped on the farm. She was the oldest of 7 children. She attended Country School #68 about 3 miles down the road in Ida Township. She graduated 8th grade and then went on to Central High School in Alexandria, graduating in 1948. She was baptized on January 15th, 1931, at West Moe Lutheran Church, and later confirmed at St. Lukes Lutheran Church in Garfield in the spring of 1944.

LaJune met Arthur M. Hausken while living with his parents and working at Blakes By The Lakes north of Alexandria. They were married July 25th, 1948, at Calvary Lutheran Church in Alexandria. They lived together on the north side of Alexandria, near Lake Le Homme Dieu their whole married life. They raised their children in this house. She worked as a waitress at several restaurants in the area. She last worked at The Alexandria Golf Club, for many years as a waitress and later as a cook.

Art and LaJune had 7 children, Carol Jean, Douglas Ray, Marilyn Kay, Richard Lee, Kenneth Alan, and twins Joyce Ann and Janet Ann. Her children were very important to her, and she enjoyed doing things with them, whether it be going to the DQ, the stock car races or hanging out at home playing board games or cards.

LaJune enjoyed reading, doing word search puzzles, watching price is right and wheel of fortune. She would even watch a few soap operas during the day. She enjoyed cooking and her specialty was her homemade caramel rolls, bread, potato pancakes, potato dumplings, along with soups and good old-fashioned meat and potato meals, especially her fried chicken which was a staple on Sundays.

She also enjoyed going to church, attending family gatherings, holidays, birthdays, graduations and weddings. She was even able to attend several military functions for various family members. She was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church for over 70 years and was a member of The Ladies Auxiliary #3063 Eagles club for 53 years.

As her children grew older and the grandchildren, great grandchildren and great, great grandchildren came, she opened her heart even more to let them all in. She loved children of all ages. She was lucky enough to see most of them at least once in the past several years. She always went by Grandma June.

She lived several years in her own home, then moving to Bethal Manor in 2001. She then moved to Windmill Ponds assisted living in 2023. Due to her eyesight and other health conditions she moved to Bethany on the Lake in February 2025. She entered Hospice care at that time.

She passed away April 15, 2025, with family at her side. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Art, infant daughter Joyce Ann in 1963, her son’s Richard in 1977, Douglas in 2018.
