Larro Orville Hilgren, age 94, of Parkers Prairie, passed away on May 9, 2020 at Knute Nelson Care Center. Memorial service will be held on Tuesday, June 16, 2020, 1:30 PM in the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Parkers Prairie. Family and friends attending the service at the church can tune into 105.3 in your cars as we want everyone to stay in their vehicles. Burial will be at the Parkers Prairie Cemetery.
Larro was born on August 28, 1925, in Eastern Township near Parkers Prairie, to Gertie and Hjalmar Hilgren. He was baptized and confirmed at Esther Lutheran Church. He attended Joy School for 8 years and graduated from Parkers Prairie High School. He was inducted into the Army in 1945.
In 1950, Larro married his high school sweetheart Darlene Huwe. He joined Immanuel Lutheran Church and was an active member for over 65 years. He served on the endowment committee, as trustee, on the financial committee and as an usher.
Larro owned and ran Northwood Specialties Co. with his brother, Carold for 24 years. Larro then owned the Ford dealership in Parkers for eleven years. Later, he drove gas truck for a number of years and did farm work.
Larro was a member of the Parkers Prairie American Legion for 60 years, a fireman for many years and served on the Parkers Prairie City Council for 8 years. He loved flying and earned his license to fly in Alexandria.
Larro enjoyed bowling, golf, deer hunting, fishing, and playing Whist. Larro and Darlene enjoyed winters in Arizona and took trips to Europe and Hawaii.
Larro is survived by his wife, Darlene; daughters: Diane (Robert) Gambrel of Coon Rapids, Rochelle (Samuel) Leitheiser of Marietta, Georgia; sons: Randy (Cynthia) Hilgren of Ashland, Massachusetts, Scott Hilgren of Champlin; grandchildren: Jack Hilgren, Melissa (Brian) Jansen, Kyle (Alissa) Gambrel; great grandchildren: Joshua & Nathan Gambrel; sister, Janice (John) Tennyson; sister-in-laws: Joann Huwe, Mary Hilgren, and Lucille Hilgren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Dennis, Carold, and Dr. Jerry Hilgren. Please leave memories on our tribute wall for the family. For those who unable to attend the service we will be live streaming it and recording service.
