Larry Nelson

Larry William Nelson was born on March 11, 1952, in Paynesville, Minnesota the son of William and Willa (Payton) Nelson. He graduated from Paynesville High School Class of 1969. He furthered his education at Willmar Technical College in Auto Mechanics. After graduation he owned the Union 76 Station in Paynesville and from 1967-1971 he worked at the Mopar Dealership in Paynesville. In 1973, Larry married Marion Sand in Paynesville. The family moved to the Alexandria area in 1983. During this time he was a salesman for Matco Tool. In 1987, Larry opened the Nelson Auto Magic Transmission & Auto Repair in Carlos. During his life he enjoyed motorcycling, fishing, garage saleing, singing, spending time with his family, lounging around the house in his housecoat. He also enjoyed the occasional trip to the casino and playing Texas-Hold?em. Larry passed away peacefully at his home in Carlos after losing his battle with cancer on Wednesday, June 08, 2011, at the age of 59. He is survived by his children: Ryan (Kellie Topper) Nelson of Carlos, Justin Nelson of St. Cloud, Chad Zimmer of Fargo, Candice (Josh Backman) Nelson of Alberta; grandchildren: Zachary Nelson, Willow Bachmeier, Blake Nelson; brothers: Mike (Lorraine) Nelson of Eden Valley, Bob (Renae) Nelson of Paynesville; sisters, Betty Bahner of Roscoe, Lisa (Terry) Nelson of New Richmond, WI, and Cindy (Kirk) Bober of Cyrus. Larry is preceded in death by his parents, William and Willa; and brother-in-law, Roger Bahner. Special thank you to Peyton Stanlake and Tom Persons for helping through the tough times. A funeral service was held on Saturday, June 11, 2011 at the Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria with Reverend Wayne Erickson officiating. Interment was in the Kinkead Cemetery in Alexandria. Casket bearers were Mike Corcoran, Zachary Nelson, Bob Nelson, Mike Nelson, Tom Persons, and Peyton Stanlake. Arrangements are with the Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria.
