Larry Shoemaker

Larry Dean Shoemaker was born on August 15, 1942 in Alexandria to Arlington and Helen (Beloredsky) Shoemaker. He married Mary Ettel on August 12, 1977 in Hennepin county. Together they had 2 daughters, Kimberly and Dawn. After moving back to Alexandria in 1995, Larry worked at various manufacturing facilities until he retired. Retirement saw Larry looking for new recipes to try and old places to visit. He made sure that everyone walking through his doors was fed no matter where they came from and always had homemade cookies on hand.

Larry was a great fisherman and introduced both daughters to fishing at a young age. He also enjoyed working on his model car kits, fishing, reading, baking and driving. He welcomed a granddaughter in 2011 and enjoyed spending time with her every weekend

Larry, beloved husband, father, and grandfather passed away at his home in Alexandria on April 7, 2021. He is proceeded in death by his parents; grandmother: Emma; uncle: Harvey; two infant brothers; and pet cat: Tina. Larry is survived by his wife: Mary; his daughters: Kimberly (Patrick) Shoemaker of Alexandria, MN, Dawn (Mark) Gustafson of Mankato MN, and Wendy Shoemaker; his cat: Roxie; his granddaughters: Sophia Emma and Hayley; and his grandpets: Bear, Mika, and Jack.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, April 12, 2021, 1:00 p.m. at Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria, with visitation one-hour prior. This service will be live-streamed and recorded for family and friends to view from Larry’s obituary page on the Anderson Funeral Home website at 1 PM on Monday. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery.
