On February 11, 1927, Laura Mae Toft was born in Alexandria, MN to Eddie and Marie (Engebretson) Ormseth. Laura graduated from Central High School in 1944 and continued her education at Fairview College receiving her RN degree.
Laura Mae and Dr. John Toft were united in marriage at First Lutheran Church of Alexandria on May 28, 1950. The couple settled in Alexandria where they raised their five children; Kathy, John, Lee, Randi and Paul.
Laura had the privilege to stay home to raise their children. She was an excellent cook, always had desserts and food ready for her family when they came home to visit. Two favorites that her grandchild rave over; carrot cake and homemade lefse. Laura was very proud of her family and loved holidays; any chance to spend time with her family.
Laura especially enjoyed her time babysitting for her grandchildren. In the last several years of Laura's life, she enjoyed many visits from her great-grand child whom she adored greatly.
Laura was known for a radiant smile and a good sense of humor. She will be missed by all those who knew and loved her.
Laura Mae died Thursday, May 24, 2018 at Bethany on the Lake in Alexandria at the age of 91 years old. She was preceded in death by husband, Dr. John. Toft, her parents, Eddie and Marie Ormseth; her daughter Kathy Toft; and 2 brothers: Earl Ormseth and Harold Ormseth.
She is survived by her children: John (Jay) Toft and his children; Philip, Alison, Andrea, and Sara
Lee Toft
Randi Thompson and her children; Greg and Linda
Paul Toft and his children; Michelle and Michael
9 great grandchildren.
Family and friends will gather Tuesday, May 29, 2018 at 11 AM at First Lutheran Church in Alexandria to celebrate Laura’s life. A visitation will take place one hour prior to the service at the church.
Interment will be in Lake Ida Cemetery.
