Laurie Oberg

September 10, 1958 — November 19, 2017

Laura Ann Mikkelson was born September 10, 1958 in Alexandria, MN, the daughter of Marvin and Maggie (Larson) Mikkelson. Laurie grew up in Alexandria and graduated from Jefferson High School in 1976.

On April 22, 1978 Laurie was united in marriage to Gary Oberg in Alexandria. The couple made their home in Alexandria and began raising a family. They were blessed with two sons, Shane and Scott, who she was very proud of.

Laurie enjoyed spending time in the summer fishing and just being out on the boat. Her and Gary went bowling and participated in the mixed couple’s league. This past summer Laurie became an avid Twins fan.

Next to God, her three grandchildren were her top priority. Her love for them was evident in everything she did with them. Laurie dearly loved their many pets over the years and they were more like family to her. All of her family was very special to her. Laurie was the family rock. Her selflessness allowed her to always help out whenever she was needed.

On Sunday, November 19, 2017 Laurie died at the age of fifty-nine years. She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Michael Mikkelson; and one sister-in-law, Brandi Mikkelson. Laurie is survived by her husband, Gary Oberg of Alexandria; sons, Shane Oberg and wife, Merritt, of Lowry, MN and Scott Oberg and wife, Rayn, of New London, MN; grandchildren, Nolan Oberg, Carson Oberg and Zion Oberg; brother, Randy Mikkelson and wife, Denise, of Osakis, MN; nephews, Ryan Mikkelson and wife Kristyna and Daniel Mikkelson; nieces, Tracey Borstad and Ivy Mikkelson; great nephew, Jared Mikkelson; and sisters-in-law, Barb Mikkelson of Alexandria, Peggy Oberg of Alexandria, June Roers and husband, Rory, of Alexandria and Jan Krohnfeldt and husband, Gaylord, of Wisconsin.

A memorial service will be held 1 PM Friday, November 24, 2017 at The CHURCH in the Pines in Alexandria. Reverend Jay Jenson will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at church.

Arrangements are with Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria.
