LaVerne Wussow

December 22, 1933 — April 28, 2018

Ida Township

LaVerne Wussow was born on December 22, 1933, in Brandon Township, the daughter of Henry and Irene (Ziegelman) Bettermann.  She grew up on a farm in the Brandon/Garfield area.  LaVerne was baptized and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Garfield and graduated from Alexandria High School in 1951.

On July 2, 1960, LaVerne was united in marriage to Kenneth Wussow at St. John’s Church in Garfield.  After their marriage, the couple moved into their home, in Ida Township, where they lived for the next 57 years. Together, they raised their five children.  LaVerne was active on the farm whether it was milking the cows, helping with the harvest, working in the garden, canning or taking care of the finances.

LaVerne loved her family and planning holidays with them.  She was a wonderful cook and enjoyed making rolls, Christmas cookies and candy and just having everyone together.  Her home was always open to friends and family to stop by or spend a night or weekend. She also enjoyed sewing, embroidery, making quilts and playing cards. During her last months – Kings in the Corner was her favorite.

She was also a very active member of Ebenezer Lutheran Church. Over the years she taught Sunday School, sang in the choir, participated in LWML and was a member of the church circles. You could often find her in the church kitchen making food or cleaning up. She was also a member of the Millerville American Legion Auxiliary.

LaVerne and Kenny loved to dance and others loved to watch them dance. You could often find them at the VFW on a Friday night. When they could no longer go dancing, they would watch it on TV.

LaVerne died on Saturday, April 28, 2018.  She is survived by her children: Bruce (Shannon), Keith (Sandy), Rodney, Carol (Tom) Myhre, Steve (Jessica); grandchildren: Colleen (Brent) Fox, Jessica Montgomery (friend, Shane), Christopher (Ashley) Montgomery, Jessie (Aaron) Kuseske, Adam Wussow, Paige Wussow, Lucas Myhre, Jackson Myhre, Alec Myhre, McKenna Wussow, Brody Wussow; great grandchildren: Aleeza, Dominic, Avery; brothers: Lester (Wanda) Bettermann, Willie (Hilda) Bettermann, Kenny (Nola) Bettermann, sisters: Jan (Jim) Slater, Evie (Dave) Nordstrom, Diane (Rich) Strong; brother-in-law, Norman; sister-in-laws: Naomi Gargaro, Donna Wussow.
