LaVonne was born on September 10, 1928 in Grand Rapids, Minnesota the daughter of Walter and Ada (Lipscy) Gillson. LaVonne attended various schools and graduated from Hill City High School in 1946. In 1950 she was united in marriage to David S. Carlson and the couple lived in the Bloomington area. David died in 1963. Through the Big Brother program LaVonne met Don Ahlstedt and they were married on December 30, 1964. They lived in Bloomington until 1973 when they moved to Coeur d? Alene, Idaho. In 1977 they returned to the Alexandria area. LaVonne and Don were both employed at Wal-Mart as greeters, and LaVonne enjoyed her occupation until her illness made it too difficult. She enjoyed visiting with people, yardwork and was a volunteer in her church. LaVonne died at Diamond Willow in Alexandria on December 16, 2012. She is survived by her husband Don of Alexandria, son Greg of Nashua, MT, and daughters Denise Biggar of Glasgow, MT and Cindy Rollins of Alexandria. Also surviving are five grandchildren, three great grandchildren, and one brother Darrell Gillson of Hill City, MN. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers LaVern and Keith Gillson, and grandson Paul Ahlstedt. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, December 20, 2012 at the United Methodist Church at 11AM with the Rev. Jeff Hansen, officiating. Lonnie Kriel and Stephanie Tewes providing the music. The interment will be in Geneva Cemetery in Alexandria. Arrangements are with the Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria.
