LaVonne Borgmann

LaVonne I. Borgmann of Alexandria, MN, died on Tuesday, July 22, 2008, at Knute Nelson in Alexandria. She was born on October 28, 1932, in Winger, Minnesota, the daughter of Willie and Nina (Nelson) Skeie. LaVonne graduated from the Northwest School of Agriculture in Crookston, MN, in 1950. In 1952, she graduated from Moorhead State Teachers College. She taught elementary school in the Sauk Centre and Osseo school districts. LaVonne was united in marriage to Donald J. Borgmann in Sauk Centre, MN, on June 29, 1955. They were blest with four children and raised their family in Sauk Centre, Brooklyn Park, Glenwood, and Alexandria. She was an active member of First Lutheran Church in Alexandria. She also enjoyed quilting, rosmaling, knitting, sewing, painting and gardening. She belonged to Zetetic, Red Hats, F.A.T.S., and Bridge Club. She was preceded in death by her parents: Willie & Nina Skeie; brother, Maynard. LaVonne is survived by her husband, Donald; children: Barbara (Joel) Baseley of Dearborn, MI, Rebecca (Paul) Kilgore of Duluth, Susan (Tom) Thoele of Brainerd, Craig (Lyn) of Plymouth; grandchildren: John, Daniel, Anna Baseley; Emily, Mara Kilgore, Ethan, Jacob, Matthew Borgmann, Benjamin Thoele; sister, Colleen (Orval) Aakhus; brother, Arnold (Barbara) Skeie and many nieces and nephews. She loved being with her family and considered each day a blessing. LaVonne was a 35 year cancer survivor before she was diagnosed with lung cancer in May, 2008. She suffered a stroke two weeks later and entered the Knute Nelson. The family would like to thank the entire Station One Staff at Knute Nelson and Douglas County Hospice for all the loving care they gave LaVonne. You were all truly a blessing to her. She was deeply loved and will be dearly missed. Funeral services were held on Monday, July 28, 2008, 11:00 a.m. at First Lutheran Church in Alexandria with Rev. Greg Billberg officiating. Burial was at Evergreen Cemetery in Alexandria. Arrangements are with the Anderson Funeral Home.
