Lawrence Peter Cline was born on September 3, 1918, in Ward Township, Todd County at the family farm. He attended country school through the 8th grade and then helped on the family farm. Lawrence enlisted in the United States Army in 1942 serving his country until 1945. While in the Army he was stationed in Australia. Larry was a cryptographic technician who repaired and maintained top-secret signal equipment, code machines and radios.
After serving his country Lawrence moved back to Minnesota where he met Irene Benson. The couple was married on May 29, 1948 at Christ the King Catholic Church in Browerville, MN. The couple moved to Minneapolis after their marriage where Lawrence worked for the Soo Railroad line repairing engines and for the Northern Pacific Railway Company building bridges. He went on to work at the FMC Corporation in Fridley for 29 years.
Upon their retirement the couple moved to Miltona where Larry enjoyed golfing, hunting, fishing and watching the Minnesota Twins. On his 96th birthday he attended the Twins game and was “circled by Bert” and on his 100th birthday he raised the flag before the game.
Lawrence died on Friday, May 17, 2024. He is survived by his wife of 76 years Irene; sister, Leatrice Noska; several nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Clifton, Harry, Wesley, Lyle and Raymond.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 28, 2024, 10:00 – 11:00 AM at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM. Burial will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
