Leander Spaeth

March 9, 1919 — August 2, 2008

Leander Ben Spaeth was born on March 9, 1919 in Spring Hill, MN the son of Adam and Frances (Wulferkuhle) Spaeth. Leander helped with the family farm as he grew up and attended country school. He married Angela Prazak on June 17, 1941 in Millerville, MN. Together they had three children Delores, Jean and Gary. During his working years, Leander farmed, worked for the U.S. Game and Fish Department and also construction. He was foreman in the construction of Knute Nelson. He later worked for Red Owl and retired after 30 years of employment. Leander was a strong, hard working man with a great sense of humor. He liked to go fishing and would not come home until he caught his limit. He liked to mow his lawn and took great pride in its appearance. Leander knew a lot of people throughout the years and liked to visit with all of them. He loved his wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He will be missed by those who knew and loved him. Leander B. Spaeth died on Saturday, August 2, 2008 at Knute Nelson at the age of 89 years. He is survived by his wife of 67 years Angela Spaeth of Alexandria; daughter Jean and Roger Odegaard of Alexandria; son Gary and Pat Spaeth of Alexandria; son-in-law Wayne Dreger of Miltona, MN; eight grandchildren Ken and Sheri Dreger of Deer Trail, CO; Sandy and Keith Wussow of Garfield, MN; Brenda and Craig Mariucci of Clovis, CA; Chris and Steph Odegaard of Lino Lakes, MN; Jennifer and Tom Borgenheimer of St. Cloud, MN; Jeremy and Carla Spaeth of Brandon, MN; Jenel Spaeth of Alexandria; Jeanne and Nathan Thiesfeld of St. Bonifacius, MN; many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Leander was preceded in death by his parents; daughter Delores Dreger; one step-son, Delbert Prazak; one sister; Edwina Blattenbauer; and two brothers, Henry and Norbert Spaeth A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Wednesday, August 6, 2008 at St. Mary?s Catholic Church with the Reverend Steve Binsfeld officiating. Interment was in the St. Mary?s Mausoleum. Casket Bearers were Ken Dreger, Sandy Wussow, Brenda Mariucci, Chris Odegaard, Jennifer Borgenheimer, Jeremy Spaeth, Jenel Spaeth, and Jeanne Thiesfeld. Honorary Casket Bearers were Sheri Dreger, Keith Wussow, Craig Mariucci, Steph Odegaard, Tom Borgenheimer, Carla Spaeth, Nathan Thiesfeld, and Leander?s 16 great grandchildren. Arrangements are with the Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria.
