Lee Whiting Leon V. ?Lee? Whiting was born on April 19, 1926, in Alexandria, Minnesota, the son of Clinton R. and Salin (Anderson) Whiting. He was baptized at the Calvary Lutheran Church in Alexandria. Shortly after his birth the family moved to Pine City and returned to Alexandria when Lee was a teenager. Lee later moved to Minneapolis where he graduated from high school and enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He served stateside during World War II. Following his Honorable Discharge he moved to Alexandria and began working. It was at this time he met Dorine Sieling. The couple was married on August 26, 1950. Following marriage Lee was employed by Land O Lakes and he and Dorine moved ten times in thirteen years during this career. Some of the places that they lived were Minneapolis, St. Paul, Grand Rapids, Bemidji, Dawson, and Madison. Eventually Lee was employed as a Dairy Inspector by the State of Minnesota and in 1970 the couple settled permanently in Alexandria. They were also Florida snowbirds for part of their retirement years. Lee was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and served in many capacities there including as a member of the School Board, a Steward, the Financial Secretary, and as a Boy Scout Leader. He was also very musical and self-taught on the French horn, mandolin, banjo, guitar, harmonica, and learned to play the accordion with a few lessons. Most importantly, however, he was a devoted family man as husband, father, and grandfather. While his dementia relentlessly stole him away from us piece by piece, his fun loving spirit continued to shine through to the end. He peacefully went to be with the Lord on May 6, 2011, at the age of 85 years. He is survived by his wife Dorine Whiting of Alexandria; daughters Lori (Tim) Huffer of Ramsey and Lynn (Val) Hardy of Coon Rapids; grandchildren Jessica (Derek) Mason, Ben Hardy, Katy Hardy, Joy Huffer, Isaac Huffer, and Rachel Huffer.
