Leighton Knudson, age 95, of Alexandria, died Tuesday, February 9, 2016. A funeral service will be held at 2 PM Friday, February 12, 2016 at the Bethany Home Chapel. Visitation will be held from 1 to 2 PM Friday at Bethany. Interment will be private in the Nelson Cemetery.
OBITUARY
Leighton Knudson was born November 1, 1920 in Osakis Township, MN, the son of Alfred and Steena (Anderson) Knudson. He grew up and attended school at Nelson, MN. Following his schooling he began working for the Nelson Creamery. Leighton enjoyed music and was in a band in Nelson and in Alexandria.
Following the death of his parents Leighton sold the home and moved to St. Cloud at age forty-one. He attended St. Cloud State University and later the University of Minnesota. Leighton received a degree in music. He moved to Minnesota Lake, MN where he taught music until retiring in the late 1980’s.
Leighton returned to Alexandria to be closer to family. He eventually moved to Bethel Manor in Alexandria. Leighton was a longtime member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ. He shared his musical talent with the church and also sang in the church choir.
Leighton’s family was very important to him; he loved spending time with them. Leighton also enjoyed the residents and staff at Bethany Home and Bethel Manor. Leighton loved animals and had many special pets over the years.
On Tuesday, February 9, 2016 Leighton died at the age of ninety-five years. He was preceded in death by one brother, Melvin Knudson. Leighton is survived by his first cousin, Mabel Peterson of Alexandria; second cousins, Carol Van Dyke, Susan Peterson, Mary Olson and DuWayne Lund, all of Alexandria; and a number of other second cousins.
A funeral service will be held at 2 PM, Friday, February 12, 2016 at the Bethany Home Chapel. Reverend Scott Keehn will officiate. Interment in Nelson cemetery will be private. Visitation will be from 1 to 2 PM Friday at Bethany Home Chapel.
