Leland “Lorell” Bennett age 92 of Alexandria died on Wednesday, April 6, 2016 at the St. Cloud Hospital. A Memorial Service will be held 11:00 AM on Monday, April 11, 2016 at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Garfield. Visitation will be held from 4-6 PM on Sunday, April 10, 2016 at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Garfield and for one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday.

OBITUARY
Leland Lorell Bennett passed away Wednesday, April 6, 2016, at the St. Cloud Hospital at the age of 92. He was born May 31, 1923, in Onida, South Dakota to Lane and Iva (Olson) Bennett, baptized in Armour, South Dakota and confirmed at Chippewa Lutheran Church in Brandon, Minnesota. He was united in marriage on September 7, 1943 to Grace Peterson in Brandon.
Leland joined the Navy in 1944 and returned to the Brandon/Alexandria area to work for Runestone Electric Association for 14 years. He then moved to East Grand Forks, Minnesota and was employed at Grand Forks Air Force Base as Trades Manager for 20 years. Upon retiring, he returned to Alexandria and has been active at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Garfield, and is a past president of the Council and enjoyed attending Wednesday Morning Men’s Bible Study. He was also a member of the Sons of Norway, American Legion, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and Garfield Community senior card group.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Grace; two infant daughters, Carol Jean and Janice Faye; and a brother, Norris Bennett.
He is survived by two children, Marilyn Berg (Rod) of Fergus Falls, Minnesota and Larry Bennett (Jayne) of Grand Forks, North Dakota; three grandchildren, Brian Berg (Shawna) of Brooklyn Park, Minnesota, Beth Hansen (Chad) of Pequot Lakes, Minnesota, and Dustin Bennett of Grand Forks, North Dakota; great grandchildren, Samuel and Kylie Berg and Thomas and Brooklin Hansen. He is also survived by his sisters, LaVon Rapp, MaryLee Marsh and Betty Vandregrifte, and brother Bob (Betty) Bennett; sisters-in-law, Linda Bennett, Millie Peterson and Helen Kuester.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, April 10, 2016 from 4:00 PM - 6:00 PM at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Garfield, Minnesota and one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday. A memorial service will be held on Monday, April 11, 2016 at 11:00 AM at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Garfield, Minnesota with a burial to follow at Brandon Cemetery. Military Honors were provided by American Legion Post 87, VFW Post 936, VVA Chapter 235, and the Minnesota National Honor Guard.
