Leonard Dean

July 20, 1935 — February 2, 1957

Leonard Dean was born July 20, 1935 in Fairbanks, TX, the son of Clifford and Mabel (Beulke) Dean. He grew up and began school in Fairbanks. At age twelve he and his family moved to St. Paul, MN where Len graduated from high school. On February 2, 1957 Len was united in marriage to Hazel Millsap. The couple made their home in Inver Grove Heights and was blessed with two children, Larry and Cindy. Len joined the Air National Guard and worked with the Security Police. He also worked at Kinney Shoes for about ten years. Len then became a full-time employee of the National Guard. He served in the Guard for thirty-three years before retiring. On June 12, 1970 Len was united in marriage to Renee Sengir in the Twin Cities and they made their home in Hastings, MN. In 1995 the couple moved north to Lake Miltona near Miltona, MN. Len enjoyed spending time bowling with a league, fishing in the summer and golfing. He was very active in the Rose City Evangelical Free Church. In his latter years Len spent used his time to explore and strengthen his faith through Bible study and Christian reading. On Thursday, June 25, 2009 Len died at the age of seventy-three. He was preceded in death by Hazel Dean; his parents; four brothers; and three sisters. Len is survived by his wife, Renee Dean; daughter Cindy Auer, and husband Ken, of Plymouth, MN; son, Larry Dean of Cottage Grove, MN; and four grandchildren, Alexander Dean, Jessica Dean, Caitlin Auer and Natalie Auer. A funeral service was held Tuesday, June 30, 2009 at the Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria, MN. Reverend Larry Pearson officiated. Kim Byrne provided music. Interment will be in the Rose City Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers included all of Len?s grandchildren. Military honors were provided by American Legion Post 87 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 936. Arrangements were with the Anderson Funeral Home.
