Obituary Leonard R. Kalina Leonard Robert Kalina, Alexandria, died on Friday, January 21, 2011 at Bethany Home in Alexandria at the age of 90. Leonard was born on March 23, 1920 in Lake Reno Township, Pope County, the son of Henry and Barbara (Hiebel) Kalina. He attended country school thru the eighth grade. Leonard then continued to farm with his parents. Leonard married Irene C. Mrnak on June 12, 1944 at St. John Nepomuk Catholic Church. The couple lived on the home farm with Leonard?s parents. Leonard farmed for most of his life, milking cows, raising Black Angus cattle and doing fieldwork. Leonard enjoyed listening to old time music, playing whist, going dancing with Irene and visiting and reminiscing about the good old days. In 1993 Leonard and Irene sold the farm and purchased a home in Alexandria. While living in Alexandria he and Irene enjoyed visiting with friends and neighbors, joining friends at Bayfields for coffee and eating at Burger King. Leonard & Irene moved to Bethany home in 2006, where they made many new friends. Leonard is survived by sister-in-law?s, Marian Kalina of Alexandria and Betty (Jerome) Ledermann of Brandon. He is also survived by his many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews. Leonard was preceded in death by his wife Irene, parents Henry and Barbara Kalina, and brother-in-law?s Henry Mrnak and Leonard L. Kalina. A funeral service was held on Tuesday, January 25, 2011 at the Bethany Home Chapel in Alexandria with Reverend Marilee Bergerson officiating. Music was provided by organist Margaret Kalina and soloist Patrick Kalina. Entombment was held at the Kinkead Cemetery. Casket bearers were Mike Kalina, Tim Kalina, John Ledermann, Bernie Dorn, Gary Dynda and Bob Benesh. Honorary casket bearers were the staff at Bethany Home.
