Leonard Lannes

Leonard Reuben Lannes was born January 26, 1935 in Holmes City, MN, the son of Reuben and Theresa (Rundquist) Lannes. Leonard grew up in the Holmes City area where he attended school. Leonard was baptized into the Lutheran faith and was confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Holmes City. Following his schooling he went to work for Yeutter?s Bakery in Alexandria. Leonard moved to Minneapolis, MN and began working for a bakery there. He was married ad began raising a family there. In 1961 Leonard moved his family to Alexandria, MN. He started working at Hubbard Milling Company where he drove truck. On November 8, 1975 Leonard was united in marriage to Virginia Morse. The couple made their home in Alexandria. After thirty-three years with Hubbard Milling Leonard retired. Leonard enjoyed fishing with his sons. In the summer he would fish from sun up to sun down. He also fished in the winter. Leonard enjoyed going camping and owned several campers. He also enjoyed snowmobiling with family and friends. Sharing coffee or a meal with family and friends at Alexandria?s Downtown Diner was a favorite pastime. Music was something Leonard absolutely loved. He enjoyed sitting for hours just listening. Country music was his favorite. Leonard was a very giving person. If a stranger along the road needed help he would lend a hand, If a friend or neighbor needed help he would lends a hand; if his family needed him he was there to help. Leonard loved his children and was very proud of them. His grandchildren were very special to him. On Wednesday, March 12, 2014 Leonard died at the age of seventy-nine years. His parents and one brother, Vern Lannes, preceded him in death. Leonard is survived by his wife, Virginia Lannes of Alexandria; five sons, Dale Olson of Alexandria, Steve Foss of Minneapolis, MN, Dan Foss of Osakis, MN, Ron Lannes of Deer Creek, MN and Don Lannes of Deer Creek; four daughters, Sue Carlson of Elbow Lake, MN, Kathy Foss of Alexandria, Monica Bogucki and husband, John, of Minneapolis and Karen; grandchildren Lisa Bullick, Ricky Bullick, Lacey Carlson, Callie Anderson, Nicholas Foss, Megan Clauden, Carrie Foss, John Burczek, Bill Burczek and several Lannes grandchildren; and one sister, Doris Johnson of Alexandria. On Saturday, March 15, 2014 a funeral service was held at the Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria. Reverend Wayne Erickson was the officiant. Interment will be in the Christian Union Cemetery near Holmes City. Arrangements were with the Anderson Funeral Home.
