LeRoy Poetz

LeRoy Joseph was born on September 5, 1940, in Waconia, MN the son of Alphonse and Mary (Green) Poetz.  He was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic Faith.  He attended Waconia High School where he was an outstanding athlete.  He was an All-Conference Wrestler and took 3rd place at State.  His nickname in high school was “OW” – which meant outstanding wrestler.  He graduated in 1958.

LeRoy worked for Opus Construction for a number of years.  He loved being outdoors whether he was working in his beautiful gardens or out hunting and fishing.  He was a wonderful story teller and most of his stories revolved around his hunting and fishing adventures.  LeRoy had a kind heart and enjoyed sharing the products from his garden.

LeRoy loved his family and will be missed by all.  He died on Friday, March 19, 2021, at the St. Cloud Hospital.  He is survived by his four children: Michelle “Shellie” (Mike) Engler, Greg “Chip” (Danielle) Poetz, LeAnne (Peter) Nicholson, Stephanie (Luke) Thornsburg; 12 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren; brothers: Larry (Kathleen) Poetz, Cliff Poetz; partner Renee Caye.

LeRoy is preceded in death by his parents, a brother and sister.

Visitation will be held on Friday, March 26, 2021. from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. at the Anderson Funeral Home with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church.  Burial will be at St. Mary's Cemetery.  Full obituary to follow.  CDC guidelines of social distancing and wearing of masks will be followed.
