LeRoy Wilfred Zimmer was born on January 12, 1943 in Albertville, MN to Wilfred and Isabel (Meyer) Zimmer. He was baptized, confirmed and attended school at St. Albert?s Catholic Church in Albertville. After his schooling he helped his family farm. LeRoy was united in marriage to Kathleen Dunne on March 11, 1972 at the St. Steven?s Catholic Church in Anoka, MN. To this union the couple was blessed with a daughter, Jennifer. The family lived in the Twin Cities area where LeRoy worked installing sewer systems for a few years. He then worked for Hoffman Engineering in Anoka for 30 years and retired in 2003. LeRoy and Kathleen then moved to Garfield to be closer to their daughter and grandsons and moved to Alexandria in 2010. LeRoy enjoyed puttering around the house and working outside in his yard and garden. He also loved to collect toy tractors. LeRoy was a very kind and loving family man who was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather. LeRoy died on Tuesday, February 28, 2012 at the Douglas County Hospital at the age of 69. LeRoy is survived by his loving wife, Kathleen of Alexandria; daughter, Jennifer Barber of Alexandria; grandsons, Dylan, Kyle, and Evan Barber; siblings, Norman (Mable) Zimmer of Elk River, Marian (William) Haas of Colby, WI, Madeline (Kennethy) Dombroski of St. Cloud, Harold Zimmer of Monticello, Dorothy (James) Lenneman of St. Cloud, Kenneth (Tricia) Zimmer of Otsego, Dennis (Lydia) Zimmer of Hampton, VA, Bernadine (David) Betzler of Anoka; sister-in-law, Bunny Zimmer of Anoka; brother-in-law Loren Merges of Albertville, and many nieces and nephews. LeRoy is preceded in death by his parents, Wilfred and Isabel; brothers, Melvin, Richard, Donald and Allan; and sister, Catherine Merges. Special thanks to Dr. John Emblom and the caring staff of Douglas County Hospital. A memorial service was held on Saturday, March 3, 2012 at St. Mary?s Catholic Church in Alexandria with Reverend Father Steve Binsfeld officiating. Inurnment was held in St. Mary?s Catholic Cemetery. Honorary urn bearers were LeRoy?s grandsons, Dylan, Kyle and Evan Barber. Anderson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
