Lewis Mattocks

March 23, 1924 — March 2, 2017

Lewis Orla Mattocks was born on March 23, 1924 in Kinney, Minnesota the son of Orlando and Anna (Kapline) Mattocks. He graduated from Alexandria High School and after graduation served his country in the United States Army during World War II as a Medic. He was Honorably Discharged on March 12, 1946. Lewis also served during the Korean War.
Lewis was united in marriage to Phyllis Berglund on January 9, 1947 at Calvary Lutheran Church in Alexandria. To this union three children were born. The family lived in Nelson where Lewis managed the Nelson Lumber Yard and then in 1976 they moved to Alexandria and he managed the Alexandria Lumber Yard and did construction on the side.
He was a member of the VFW and American Legion, founding member of the Nelson Mens Club and Osakis Country Club. Lewis enjoyed golfing, woodworking – he made beautiful jewelry boxes, clocks and furniture.
Mr. Mattocks died on Thursday, March 02, 2017. He is survived by two children: Judy & Jerry Radford of Nelson, Brian & Candy of St. Peter; eight grandchildren, brother, Alden & wife, Eleanor of Alexandria.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis, son, Dan, parents, brother, Donnie.
Memorial service will be held on Monday, March 6, 2017, 11:00 a.m. at the Anderson Funeral Home. Military Honors by the VFW Post 936, American Legion Post 87, VVA Post 235 and Minnesota National Honor Guard. Arrangements are with the Anderson Funeral Home. www.andersonfuneral.net
