Lillian “Lill” Mary Martinek was born October 6, 1919 in New Effington, SD, the daughter of Paul and Mayme (Benesh) Martinek. Lillian moved to Pope County, MN at a young age where her family operated a farm. She attended school in Pope County. Following her schooling Lill helped her parents on the farm.
Lillian was united in marriage to Otto Brezina on October 11, 1937. To this union was born one son, Kenneth. Otto and Lill farmed a farm southeast of Forada, MN until Otto’s death in 1973. Lill remained on the farm where she has lived independently for the last eighty years.
Lill will be remembered for the beautiful quilts she made and putting together John Deere puzzles. She was an excellent baker and loved making kolaches. She was also an avid gardener and enjoyed flower gardening. Lill always had time for her grandson, Brad and her great grandchildren when it came to hunting and fishing. She always pitched in to clean the fish and game and to prepare it. Her family was very dear to her. Lill never had time for television and did not crowd her life with all of its negativity; this fact may have contributed to her positive personality and outlook on life.
On Wednesday, February 21, 2018 Lill died at the age of ninety-eight years in the loving care of her family. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Otto Brezina; her son, Kenneth Brezina; and one brother, Harvey Martinek. Lill is survived by her daughter-in-law, Elaine Brezina; grandson, Brad Brezina and wife, Jennifer; great grandsons, Alex Brezina, Tyler Klimek and Tanner Klimek; sister-in-law, Irene Martinek; and several nieces and nephews.
