Lillian Dillie

June 29, 1932 — June 27, 2011

Lillian Elzada Hurley was born June 29, 1932 in Minneapolis, MN, the daughter of Floyd and Rita (LeBard) Hurley. She was raised and schooled in Minneapolis. Lillian was united in marriage to Benjamin Jeffries in September of 1954 in Minneapolis. The couple made their home in Minneapolis where they were blessed with three children, Micheele, Earl and Carol. At an early age Lillian was stricken with glaucoma and has been blind ever since. She continued raising her children and making a good home for them. She remained very capable and independent; at times her children were sure she was not blind. In February of 1968 Lillian was united in marriage to Robert Dillie. They made their home in Minneapolis. Following Bob?s death in 2005 Lillian moved to Hot Springs, SD to be with her daughter. In October 2010 Lillian and her daughter moved to Alexandria, MN to be close to grandchildren and to her siblings. Lillian enjoyed books through the Talking Book program; she read many books. Lillian was also an avid baseball fan. The Chicago Cubs were her favored team followed by the Minnesota twins. She was also an excellent cook and usually made things from scratch. Her children loved her homemade cinnamon raisin bread. Lillian would not let her blindness slow her down. In Minneapolis she founded a support group for the blind, the Out of Sight Club. She led this club for over twenty years. After moving to Hot Springs she founded another Out of Sight club. Lillian?s grandchildren and great grandchildren were very important to her. She loved having her grandchildren read to her. She enjoyed listening to her children describe how each of her grandchildren and great grandchildren looked. Just spending time with her grandchildren was very precious to Lillian. On Monday, June 27, 2011 Lillian died at her home at the age of seventy-eight years. She was preceded in death by several bothers and sisters. Lillian is survived by her three children, Micheele Green of Alexandria, Earl Jeffries of Brooklyn Center, MN and Carol Rosen of Eureka, CA; six grandchildren, Jay Jeffries, Benjamin Holzer, Christina Green, Jeremy Rosen, Joshua Rosen and Gabriel Jeffries; four great grandchildren, Samantha Jeffries, Mariah Jeffries, Monterio Southard and Marianna Green; two brothers, Lillian?s twin, Lawrence Hurley of St. Francis, MN and Sidney Hurley, and wife, Rosie, of Montrose, MN; and one sister, Geraldine Meyers of Jacksonville, FL. A funeral service will be held at 11 AM Friday, July 8, 2011 at the Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria. Reverend Paul Seelhammer will officiate. Honorary pallbearers include Jay Jeffries, Benjamin Holzer, Earl Jeffries, Sidney Hurley, Christina Green, Jeremy Rosen and Joshua Rosen.
