Lillian Irene (Zavadil) Olson was born on December 21, 1915 in Lake Mary Township, Douglas, County, Minnesota to Wenzel and Josephine (Mrnak) Zavadil. She attended country school in District 19 of Lake Mary Township. At the age of 12 her family moved to Alexandria. Lillian attended Alexandria High School and graduated in 1933. She then attended Fargo Interstate Business College. Lillian was then employed by Alexandria Federal Savings and Loan in Alexandria. Lillian was united in marriage to Lloyd Palmer Olson in 1949 at St. Mary?s Catholic Church in Alexandria. To this union the couple was blessed with 5 children. Lillian was a member of the Christian Mothers, VFW Auxiliary, and American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed flower gardening, cooking, and baking. Lillian also enjoyed talking with friends on the phone, and spending time with family. She took great care of Lloyd through his last years and he died on September 15, 1990. Lillian died on Monday, December 01, 2008 at the Douglas County Hospital in Alexandria at the age of 92. She is survived by her children, Mary (Steve) Roers of Apple Valley, James Olson of St. Paul, MN, Carol (David) Funk of St. Cloud, MN and Tom (Kathy) Olson of Salt Lake City, UT; grandchildren, Lisa (Doug) Southwick, Nolan and Jared Funk; great-grandchildren, Ashley Winecke and Derrick Southwick; sister-in-laws, Helen Day of Montevideo and Adeline Olson of Forada; and nephew, Raymond Barta. She is preceded in death by her parents, Wenzel and Jospehine; husband, Lloyd; infant son, Michael; brothers, Wenzel and John; and sisters, Christine, Agnes and Mayme. A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Friday, December 5, 2008 at St. Mary?s Catholic Church in Alexandria with Reverend Steven Binsfeld officiating. Interment was held in the St. Mary?s Catholic Cemetery. Casket bearers were Steve Roers, Dave Funk, Harvey Chermak, Doug Southwick, and John Schmidt. Honorary casket bearer was Raymond Barta. Arrangements are with the Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria.
