Lloyd Arnold Augdahl was born on November 14, 1912 in Brandon, Minnesota to Carl O. and Thea (Larson) Augdahl. He was baptized and confirmed at West Moe Lutheran Church in rural Brandon. Lloyd grew up and helped on the family farm. He graduated with the Class of 1930, the third class to graduate from the Brandon High School. On October 26, 1941, he was united in marriage to Geneva Tolifson. Lloyd farmed with his brother, Warren until 1948 when Lloyd purchased the farm. Lloyd and Geneva raised their children on the farm, which is now a century farm. In 1966, his daughter, Kathleen and son-in-law, Bernie Thoennes purchased the farm. Lloyd and Geneva then moved to Minneapolis where he worked for the University of Minnesota as a maintenance engineer until his retirement in 1978. They then moved to Alexandria and lived in their home until 1996, when they moved to Bethel Manor. In 2000, they moved into Bethany Home. When Geneva died in 2005, Lloyd moved into Clearwater Suites for a short time before his residency at Knute Nelson. Lloyd was a devoted loving husband, father, grandfather and a friend to all. He was well read, enjoyed conversation about politics and current events, and playing cards with his children and grandchildren. Lloyd also enjoyed his woodworking hobby making doll furniture together with his wife, Geneva?s doll hobby for twenty years. Lloyd died on August 9, 2008 at Knute Nelson in Alexandria at the age of 95. He is survived by his son, James (Cheryl) Augdahl of Brandon; daughters, Kathleen (Bernie) Thoennes of Brandon, Marilyn Bitzan of Brandon and LaVerle Richey of Walker; step-son, Darrel (Joanne) Nelson of Glenwood; 37 grandchildren; 68 great grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Lorraine Augdahl of Spring Lake Park; and many nieces and nephews. Lloyd was preceded in death by his wife, Geneva; son-in-law, Kenny Bitzan Sr; step-son, Delray Nelson; step-daughter-in-law, Beverly Nelson; parents, Carl and Thea; and brothers, Freddy, James, Clifford, Edwin, Philip, and Warren; and sisters, Mabel (Landeen) and Hazel (Pederson). A funeral service was held on Wednesday, August 13, 2008 at First Lutheran Church in Alexandria with Reverend John Peshek officiating. Music was provided by Rebecca Thoennes, pianist, Christine Shores, Bernie and Anthony Thoennes, as soloists. Interment was held in the Brandon Cemetery. Casket bearers were Alan Augdahl, Greg Thoennes, Nick Thoennes, Ken Bitzan Jr., Michael Richey, Chuck Nelson and Steven Nelson. Honorary casket bearers were all of Lloyd?s grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. Arrangements are with the Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria.
