Lloyd Wayne Dawson was born to Esther Marie (Grice) and Frank Altus Dawson on August 9, 1948 at the hospital in Park Rapids, MN Lloyd was raised on a farm by Nevis, MN and was a member of the Church Of Christ in Nevis, MN where he was baptized on July 31, 1960. . He attended school in Nevis, graduating from high school in 1966. After high school Lloyd joined the U.S. Navy in March of 1967 and was stationed in California, Florida, Hawaii and the Philippines. He received an honorable discharge in December of 1970. He then moved to Alexandria where he attended Alexandria Tech. from 1970-1972 for Law Enforcement. He was a police officer in Staples and Hutchinson, MN. On September 29, 1973 he was united in marriage to Jerilyn (Jeri) Karger at North Effington Lutheran Church, Parkers Prairie, MN. They had two children Jacinda and Kevin. Lloyd continued his education by attending Wadena Tech from 1973-1974 for Telephone Communications. He was employed with United Telephone in Benson, MN starting in May of 1974. He was later transferred to Alexandria in 1984 and retired from Embarq on March 20, 2008. His children were very important to him and he was very proud of them. There wasn?t anything he wouldn?t do for them, as we all know. Lloyd enjoyed golfing and playing cards but mostly, he enjoyed going to the Minnesota Viking games. Lloyd passed away on April 17, 2008 at his home in Alexandria with his wife by his side after a very courageous nine-month battle against cancer. Lloyd is survived by his wife Jerilyn (Jeri) Dawson, of Alexandria; daughter Jacinda Grossman and (Wayne) of Lakewood, NJ; son Kevin Dawson and special friend Amy Kehrberg of Alexandria, MN; mother Esther Dawson of Nevis, MN; sister Shirley Martin and (Jim) of Jacksonville, FL; sister-in-law Joyce Foust and (Ken) of Jackson, MI; brother-in-law Arlin Karger of Moorhead, MN and special friend Kathy Grandlund of Fargo, ND; several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father Frank Altus Dawson and his sister Carol Ann Tatro. A Funeral Service was held on Monday, April 21, 2008 at Bethesda Lutheran Church with the Reverend Marilee Bergerson officiating. Organist was ___. Truman and Karen Hanson sang a duet. Interment was in the Evergreen Cemetery. Casket Bearers were Frank Bistodeau, Bruce Holgate, Thomas Lempka, Lennie Murray, Timothy Tollefson, and Andrew Trisco.
