Lois Marie Auel was born on June 19, 1928 on a farm near Morris, MN to Ross and Mildred (Wellman) Jordan. She was baptized on July 22, 1928 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Morris and was confirmed on June 4, 1944 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Hancock, MN. Lois graduated from Hancock High School in 1946 and then attended Beauty School for one year to become a beautician. Lois met Arnold Auel and they were united in marriage on November 1, 1947 at the St. John’s Lutheran Church parsonage in Hancock, MN. Three children were born to this union, Patricia, Don, and Rob.
The couple made their home in the Morris area where they farmed at Hancock, Cyrus and Alberta. In 1961 the family moved to Brandon, MN where they bought a farm. Lois continued to help on the farm and also work as a telephone operator, waitress and as a cook at the Evansville Nursing Home. In 1975, they built their retirement home just north of Brandon where they lived for 35 years before moving to Alexandria.
Lois was a kind and caring woman who was always fair and honest. She loved her family and enjoyed having them in her home. She planned big meals for them to enjoy and made everyone in her home feel comfortable. Lois’ hobbies kept her busy by writing poems, gardening, collecting dolls, and sewing. She had a special liking to Shirley Temple and her grandbabies. Lois had the ability to send the perfect card to someone for any occasion. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Lois M Auel died on Wednesday, January 14, 2015 at Knute Nelson in Alexandria at the age of 86 years old. She is survived by her daughter Patricia (Don) Knudsen of Omaha, NE; sons Don (Karen) Auel of Elk River, MN and Rob (Dianne) Auel of Alexandria; 9 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; sister Darlene (John) Larson of Cyrus, MN; brother Lyle (Lee) Jordan of Maple Grove; sister-in-law Elaine Jordan of Alexandria. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Arnold, brother Delbert and a miscarriage grandchild.
A Funeral Service was held on Saturday, January 17, 2015 at Bethel Evangelical Lutheran Church in Morris, MN with the Reverend Mark Tiefel officiating. Interment was in Summit Cemetery in Morris. Casket Bearers were John Auel, Ryan Auel, Jeffrey Auel, Jason Auel, Todd Knudsen, Michael Knudsen, Shawn Knudsen, and Eric Wymore. Honorary Casket Bearers were Tammy Auel, Rebecca Wymore, Sarah Auel, Heidi Auel, Julie Knudsen, Stephanie Knudsen, Christina Knudsen, and Angie Auel.
