Lois Flanigan passed away Tuesday, October 6th, 2009 at the age of 95, with her husband of 64 years, Edward, by her side. Lois graduated from Duluth High School and the Three Arts Club finishing school in New York. She then traveled to California and was a hostess at the USO Club in Monterrey where she met Sgt. Edward Flanigan. They were married on July 13, 1945 in Marysville, California. They moved to Alexandria when Ed was discharged from the Army. The couple purchased the Alexandria Hotel (now the Alexson) from Lois' parents and operated it until they retired in 1978. Lois was active in running the family business and was instrumental in starting the Alexandria chapter of The League of Women Voters. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. She especially enjoyed entertaining, storytelling and taking care of the Chickadees and Grey Squirrels that entertained her daily. She was preceded in death by her parents, Bruce and Florence TerBush, and her sister, Janie. She is survived by her husband Edward, son Kevin, daughter-in-law, Carol and granddaughter, Kelly. Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, October 10th at 10:00am at the Knute Nelson chapel. Burial was at the Kinkead Cemetery in Alexandria.
