Lois Hafdal

Lois Marion (Young) Hafdal was born on September 10, 1916 in Murdock, MN to Leonard and Anna (McGovern) Young. She graduated from Murdock High School and went onto Mankato State University where she earned her teaching degree. Her first teaching job was in Red Lake in Beltrami County where she met, Arthur. Lois was united in marriage to Arthur Hafdal in 1942 and they were blessed with five children. In 1947, the family moved to Alexandria where she was a homemaker. Lois was an avid reader and was a friend and supporter of the Douglas County Library. She also enjoyed playing bridge and being with the grandchildren. Lois was a loved wife, mother and grandmother whom will be sadly missed. The family of Lois would really like to thank the Doctor?s and Nurse?s of Douglas County Hospital for their tender and thoughtful care. Lois died on Saturday, July 19, 2008 at the Douglas County Hospital at the age of 91. She is survived by her children, Gary Hafdal of Mesa, AZ, Karen Bailey of Fridley, MN, Tom Hafdal of Shakopee, MN, Jim (Wanda) of Alexandria, and Rich (Sheridan) of Prior Lake, MN, 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; sister, Jean Kennedy of Murdock; and several nieces and nephews. Lois is preceded in death by her parents, Leonard and Anna; husband, Arthur; and sisters, Hedwig, Blanche, Gertrude, and Margaret; and brother, Leonard. A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Wednesday, July 23, 2008 at the St. Mary?s Catholic Church in Alexandria with Reverend Father Steven Binsfeld officiating. Interment was held in the Kinkead Cemetery. Casket bearers were all of Lois?s grandchildren, Bill Hafdal, Brad Hafdal, Krisi Bailey, Teri Anderson, Stacey Linden, Jana Hafdal, Jean Hafdal, John Hafdal, Ashley Hafdal, Troy Chvala and Tara Klein. Memorials are preferred to the Douglas County Library. Arrangements are with the Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria.
