Lorine Lucille Vipond was born on February 1st, 1924 in Marshall, MN to Henry and Elizabeth (Nothem) Lanners. Lorine graduated from Brandon High School and went on to Nursing School at St. Francis School of Nursing in Breckenridge, MN.
Lorine was united in marriage to Clarence “Kiddo” Vipond on June 19, 1947. To this union, they were blessed with 6 children: Jack, Bob, Tom, Diane, Gordy, and Mike. She began her nursing career first at Our Lady of Mercy and later Douglas County Hospital. Her primary role was in the operating room and was well respected by all staff. “Vipper” led the nurses into forming the Nursing Union at DCH and mentored many nurses along the way. She retired from nursing after 43 years. After retiring she continued her caring nature by helping out with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her family meant the world to her.
Lorine was a member of the VFW Auxiliary and the American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed all the time spent with family camping, gathering for sporting events, Lanners reunions, travels around the world, working in the garden and meeting up with the Operating Room gang. She was faithful in attending grandchildren’s events. You would often find her at daily Mass or praying the rosary.
She was an avid sports fan including all MN sports teams. You would find her up late at night following a Twins game or hosting a family gathering to cheer on the Vikings. In her later years, she spent many hours in the sun at Nelson Gables. She spoiled her family with homemade noodles and apple pie. She was the master at Easter bunny cake. She was known to all as a Wonderful Person.
Lorine died on Saturday, September 23, 2023 at the age of 99. She is survived by her children: Jack Vipond, Tom (Sharon) Vipond, Diane (Dale) Sletto, and Mike (Diane) Vipond; daughter-in-law: Glenice Vipond; grandchildren Jennifer (Chris) Janke, Kimberly (Jeremy) Thoennes, Ryan Vipond, Jacki (Ryan) Stewart, Mitchell Vipond and Meghan Vipond; — great grandchildren Jacob, Kendra and Carter Thoennes, Kylee and Alayna Janke, Nicholas, Rebecca, Juliana and Makayla Vipond, Avianna and Colton Stewart, Charlotte and Soloman Hanson and many Nieces and Nephews who loved her dearly. Lorine was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence; sons Bob and Gordy; parents Hank and Liz, sister Marie Eiden, brothers Leroy, Bob, and Ray, granddaughter Andrea Vipond.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 27, 2023, 5:00 - 7:00 PM at the Anderson Funeral Home with a Parish Prayer Service at 5:00 PM. Visitation will continue on Thursday, September 28, 2023 from 10:00 - 11:00 AM at St Mary’s Catholic Church with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM. Burial will be at St. Mary's Cemetery.
