Lorraine Meissner

Lorraine Luella (Klein) Meissner was born at home August 6, 1927 in Millerville Township, Douglas County to Rudolph and Lily (Huwe) Klein. She was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Millerville Township. She attended country school in District 56 and Brandon High School. On June 5, 1946, Lorraine was united in marriage to Harlen Meissner at Trinity Lutheran Church. The couple purchased a farm in Millerville Township, and were blessed with five children. Lorraine was a housewife, helped on the farm, and cleaned cabins on Lake Aaron. They retired from farming in 1976 where they built a home a quarter mile down the road from their farm. Lorraine then worked as a cook at the Crestview Manor in Evansville for several years. Lorraine was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church where she was also the church organist for 66 years and a member of the Lutheran Woman?s Missionary League. In her younger years Lorraine loved to play softball and bowling. She enjoyed golfing, cooking, gardening, playing cards, fishing and watching the Minnesota Twins. Lorraine and Harlen loved to travel, making many trips to Missouri, Montana and Texas. Most of all Lorraine loved to spend time with family and friends, especially her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Lorraine died on Saturday, April 18, 2009 at Sharon?s Place in Alexandria at the age of 81. She is survived by her sons, Dennis (Rose) of Evansville, Glenn (Carole) of Parkers Prairie, Harold (Carol) of Brandon and Jim (Lori) of Brandon; 16 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; brothers, Arland (Eileen) Klein of Parkers Prairie, LeRoy (Jackie) Klein of Fargo, and Jerry (Judy) Klein of Brandon; sister, Ruth (Edward) Thoennes of Urbank; and many nieces and nephews. Lorraine is preceded in death by her parents, Rudolph and Lily; husband, Harlen; and daughter, Norma Odens. A funeral service was held on Wednesday, April 22, 2009 at Grace Lutheran Church with Reverend Ed Borchardt officiating. Music was provided by organist, Diane Alveshire and soloist, Jerry Klein. Interment was held in the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Millerville Township. Casket bearers were Lorraine?s grandchildren, Jason Meissner, Chris Meissner, Kyle Meissner, Jessie Meissner, Darren Meissner, Shawn Meissner, Travis Meissner, Angie Debilzen, Craig Meissner, Ryan Meissner, Brent Meissner, Nate Meissner, Josh Meissner, Derek Meissner, Jenna Meissner, and Tyson Meissner. Honorary casket bearers were Lorraine?s great-grandchildren. Arrangements are with the Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria.
