Lou Geris

October 24, 1919 — December 14, 2017

Luella “Lou” Barbara Geris, the daughter of Frank and Elizabeth (Terfehr) Schmidt, was born on October 24, 1919 in Miltona Township, MN.  Lou attended District #93 through the eighth grade and helped her parents on the farm selling potatoes and cucumbers.  At a barn dance Lou met the love of her life, Ves Geris.  They were united in marriage on June 8, 1938 at St. Nicholas Catholic Church.  To this marriage six children were born, Robert, Mary Ann, Gerald, Marcene, Donald, and Lorayne.  Lou raised her children and helped Ves on the farm.  She also worked at the Minnesouri Club, cleaning cabins and painting, as a clerk for Harold’s Grocery Store in Carlos and Martin’s Grocery Store in Alexandria and for about 17 years prior to retirement she worked at Herbergers in the fabric and linen departments.

Lou worked hard throughout her life, but always had time for her family.  She and Ves liked to go for a drive on Sunday and get ice cream with the kids, play games and spend time with neighbors.  She also liked gardening, fishing, sewing, and collecting stuffed frogs.  Lou will forever be missed by those who knew and loved her.

Lou B. Geris died on Thursday, December 14, 2017 at Bethany Home at the age of 98 years.  She is survived by her children, Bob (Mary) Geris of Alexandria, Mary Ann (Jim) Zastrow of Alexandria, Jerry Geris of Nelson, Micki (Bob) Meyers of Alexandria, Butch Geris of Rockford, and Bee (Jerry) Covel of Carlos; 22 grandchildren; 55 great grandchildren; and 22 Great Great Grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Sylvester Geris, sister Betty Ekdahl and her brother Sylvester Schmidt Sr. and three grandchildren, Corey Peterson, Curt Hubred, and Denise Fisher.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, December 19, 2017 at 11AM at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alexandria.  Visitation will be for one hour prior to the mass at the church on Tuesday.  Entombment will be in the St. Mary’s Mausoleum.
