LouAnn Wagner

LouAnn Myrtle (Dickhoff) Wagner of Alexandria joined her heavenly father on November 21, 2013. LouAnn was born to George and Elda (Hollatz) Dickhoff on March 3, 1932 in Effington Township, Ottertail County Minnesota. She was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in North Effington Township. LouAnn grew up on the family farm with her four siblings. The family was musically gifted and fond memories remain of evenings spent playing numerous instruments and singing. LouAnn?s favorite songs were hymns. She attended rural school District 235 where she graduated from eighth grade. In her early and mid teens LouAnn worked as a mother?s helper and nanny. She also worked as a waitress at The Corner Caf� and Harry?s Caf� both in Parkers Prairie. On November 27, 1951, LouAnn married Daniel A. Wagner at Our Lady of Seven Dolors Catholic Church in Millerville. They lived on Daniel?s farm near Millerville. They had two children: Joan Katherine and Daniel George. LouAnn loved having a large vegetable garden and planting and raising flowers. She always had flowers growing around the entire house and many flower gardens. Her favorite was the many colors of the Petunia. There were numerous kinds of fruit trees in a small orchard and Lou Ann made many varieties of jams and jellies. Her grandchildren enjoyed her specialty, strawberry rhubarb. In 1967, LouAnn became certified as a Licensed Nurse Assistant. She worked at St. Williams Nursing Home in Parkers Prairie for two years. In 1970, the family moved to Alexandria. LouAnn worked at Bethany Nursing Home as a Nurse Assistant for 28 years. LouAnn was truly an angel on earth caring for the elderly and found her work of years very rewarding in many ways in her life. In 1979, her husband passed away at the age of 49 years of a malignant brain tumor. LouAnn continued working at Bethany Nursing Home until 1998 when she suffered a back injury at work. She retired and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren very much. She tried to teach them all how to play the organ. LouAnn was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Daniel; brother, Erwin Dickhoff wife, Lucille, brother-in-law, Gilbert Ziesemer. She is survived by her children: Joan K. Wagner of Alexandria, Daniel G. Wagner wife, Jody of Alexandria; grandchildren: Dustin (Trista) Wagner of Starbuck, Brooke Steinbring, Cody Wagner, Blake Steinbring of Alexandria, Michelle (Alec) Manthei of Morris; great grandchildren: Ethan, Hailey, Noah, Tyler, Madison; sisters: Dorothy Ziesemer of Alexandria, Alice (Warren) Meissner of Alexandria; brother, Elroy (Illene) Dickhoff of Pelican Rapids. She will be missed by many nieces, nephews and friends. Mass of Christian Burial was held on Tuesday, November 26, 2013, 1:00 PM at St. Mary?s Catholic Church. Burial was at St. Mary?s Cemetery. Arrangements were with the Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria.
