Lovina Cheadle

Lovina May Griffith was born April 10, 1932, in St. Paul, MN, the daughter of Earl and Retha (Slaght) Griffith. She and her family moved to Red Wing, MN where she attended school and graduated from Red Wing High School. Following high school Lovina attended Hamline University where she graduated as a Registered Nurse. Lovina and her sister, JoAnn, moved to Connecticut where she worked as a nurse for two years. When her mother became ill Lovina returned to Red Wing to be with her. She worked for several years at the Red Wing Hospital. On October 3, 1966, Lovina was united in marriage to Raymond Cheadle at the Salt Lake Temple in Salt Lake City, UT. The couple made their home on a farm near Sauk Centre, MN. They were blessed with four children, Aaron, Jennie, Nancy and Karen. Lovina worked at the hospital in Sauk Centre for about two years before moving to Moorhead, MN. Ray attended school at Moorhead while Lovina worked at the hospital in Moorhead. After Ray completed college the couple returned to Sauk Centre. In 1974, they moved their family to Villard, MN where they have resided ever since. Lovina took some time off from nursing to raise her family and operate a daycare service. She continued with her nursing doing part-time work at the nursing home in Glenwood and making home health care visits. Lovina was working for the Glenwood Retirement Home when she retired from nursing. In 2006, Lovina moved to Grand Rapids, MI to live with her daughter, Karen, to become a ?Granny Nanny.? She would commute back and forth between Grand Rapids and Villard several times per year. In 2009, Lovina moved back to Villard. Lovina was active in her church and enjoyed tracing genealogy. She served the church in Primary, Young Women?s, Sunday School, Relief Society and Seminary. She also served as a pianist, song leader and temple worker. Lovina was also actively involved in 4-H, Boy Scouts, Community Education, Community Advisory Committee, dance group and nursing organizations. Lovina was an avid reader and liked to care for plants and flowers. She was also skilled at sewing. Mostly, she loved caring for children. She enjoyed telling stories to her own children, often making up a new chapter each night. And she loved looking after and spending time with her grandchildren. Lovina died on Sunday, April 22, 2012, at the age of eighty years. Her parents and one sister, ?Connie? Torbenson, preceded her in death. Lovina is survived by her husband, Ray Cheadle of Villard; son, Aaron Cheadle and wife, Laura, of Fulda, MN; three daughters, Jennie Mitchell and husband, Gilbert, of Villard, MN, Nancy Lundt and husband, Dave, of Bemidji, MN and Karen Wilson and husband, Michael, of Perris, CA; grandchildren, Joseph Cheadle, Jacob Cheadle, Rachael Cheadle, Sariah Cheadle, Ruth Cheadle, Sam Cheadle, Rebecca Cheadle, Matthew Mitchell, Marcus Mitchell, Travis Mitchell, Kara Mitchell, Kori Mitchell, Leah Mitchell, Kelsi Mitchell, Michael Mitchell, Cindy Cheadle, Zachary Lundt, Jordan Willis, Jasmine Willis, Thiya Wilson, Jada Wilson, Quinton Wilson and Tyree Wilson; two brothers, Ronald Griffith of Robbinsdale, MN and Keith Griffith of St. Johns, AZ; and one sister, JoAnn Wehrle and husband, Roy, of Springfield, IL. A funeral service was held April 28, 2012, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Interment followed on April 30, 2012, the Oakwood Cemetery in Red Wing. Casket bearers included Jacob Cheadle, Dave Lundt, Gilbert Mitchell, Dan Torbenson, Tim Gravit, Lon Wehrle, Randy Griffith and Doug Yager. Arrangements were with the Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria, MN.
