Lucy Anna Amelia Zarn was born to Albert and Lydia (nee Ost) Zarn on May 14, 1931 in Leaf Valley Township, Douglas County, MN. She was brought into the family of Christ at her baptism on June 2, 1931 at Ebenezer Lutheran Church. She confirmed her faith on June 4, 1946 at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church, Miltona, MN. She graduated from high school at Parkers Prairie June 2, 1950 and attended her 50 year class reunion in 2000. On June 28, 1951, she and Palmer Krueger were married at Ebenezer Lutheran Church at Leaf Valley, MN. They walked together in love and faith through 73 years of marriage until his death in 2022. Lucy was called to glory on October 1, 2023 after a long decline brought on by age and dementia. She was 92 years, four months and 16 days of age.
Lucy and Palmer were members of Ebenezer Lutheran Church throughout their entire life together. They enjoyed singing in the choir and contributing to the life of the congregation in most every way imaginable. Lucy was a dedicated member of the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League in which she held offices for many years. In 1978 - 1982 she held the office of district treasurer for the LWML and, by virtue of that office, she was able to attend the national convention. She knew many other ladies through those associations and cherished their friendships, based in large measure upon their shared faith and dedication to God’s work.
Outside of the church, her life’s work was centered around her home and family. Always a modest person with a servant’s heart, she did take pride in keeping a tidy house and tending to the needs of those near and dear to her. When the need arose, she gladly lent a hand in the work of the farm that she and Palmer operated until their retirement in 1992.
Lucy and Palmer enjoyed travelling in various directions on motor coach tours across the USA, even venturing to Alaska, the maritime provinces of Canada and, of course, Branson, MO. The miles passed by rapidly while they enjoyed the company of fellow travelers.
Lucy sang, but her real pleasure was dancing to the music more than anything else. Throughout their marriage and especially into retirement, she and Palmer looked forward to going dancing with friends. Even as her personality faded into the fog of dementia, the sound of a familiar hymn or a polka would spark a smile and set her toe tapping.
Lucy is survived by her children Sharon (Randy) Lindemann, Curtis (Tracey) Krueger, grandsons Shawn (Melanie) Krueger, Travis (Paige) Krueger, Andrew (Sarah Daueber) Lindemann and granddaughter Rachel (Stefan) Olson as well as great-grandson Corbin Krueger. She is also survived by her sister Leola (Delbert) Krueger, who lived across the hall from Lucy at Knute Nelson Home in Alexandria, and by sisters-in-law Margine (Romaine) Norling and Verdell (Alvin) Krueger. She was preceded in death by her husband Palmer in 2022.
He replied, “Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and obey it” Lk. 11:28 (NIV) This was Lucy’s confirmation verse and her life reflected her deep commitment to those words.
