Luella Beto

Luella Patricia Hunter was born December 10, 1930 in Villard, MN, the daughter of Vance and Blanche (Nelson) Hunter. She grew up in Villard where she graduated from high school. Following her schooling Luella moved to Minneapolis and worked as a nursing assistant at General Hospital. On April 15, 1950 Luella was united in marriage to Roy Beto. The couple made their home in Minneapolis. They were blessed with two children; Cynthia and Philip. Luella went to work for Sears starting in their catalog department and finished her career there as secretary in the main office. She was employed there for twenty-five years before going to work for the Federal Bankruptcy Court in Minneapolis. Luella retired from the bankruptcy court at the age of seventy-six years. After her retirement Luella moved to Fridley briefly before moving to Alexandria, MN in 2008. Her move brought her closer to her sister, daughter and friends. She was a resident at Nelson Gables and later at Knute Nelson. Luella enjoyed nature; the bird and squirrel feeders always entertained her outside her window at Knute. Luella also collected the prized Longaberger baskets, her collection is extensive. Luella never had a driver?s license and never felt the need for one. She was skilled at using the public transportation system in Minneapolis. Luella loved to travel. She traveled all across the United States, Iceland, Denmark, England and Ireland. She enjoyed taking photographs on her travels to share with others. One of her past-times was to shop and often made purchases for others as she enjoyed giving to others. She was always willing to go out to eat and enjoyed others company in the process. On Monday, January 7, 2013 Luella died at the age of eighty-two years. She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Vance Hunter, Jr. and one sister, Florence Townsend. Luella is survived by her two children, Cynthia Townsend and husband, Thomas, of Alexandria and Phil Beto and wife, Janet, of Coon Rapids, MN; six grandchildren, Vicky Townsend, Katie Kalina and husband, Luke, Hope Johnson and husband, Mike, Travis Beto and fianc�, Michelle Thomas, Jenny Soular and husband, Ed, and Jackie Swenson and friend, Aaron Berg; five great grandchildren, Alex Holmes, Chelsea Berg, Kaya Eklund, Dahlia Berg and Francesca Beto; four sisters, Isabel Ladd of Glenwood, MN, Hazel Apley of Miller, SD, Deloris Anderson of Littleton, CO and Helen Proehl of Cambridge, MN; and many nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 11AM, Friday, January 11, 2013 at the United Methodist Church in Alexandria. Reverend Jeff Hansen officiating. Interment to follow at Lake Leven Cemetery, Villard, MN. Casket bearers include Mike Townsend, Jay Townsend, Ray Townsend, Alex Holmes, Jerry Jensen and Luke Kalina. Honorary casket bearers include Luella?s grandchildren and great grandchildren, and Employees of Knute Nelson Nursing Home. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 PM Thursday at Anderson Funeral Home and also one hour prior to the service at the church. Arrangements are with Anderson Funeral Home.
