Luella Delores Vendell (90) of Alexandria, MN, died Saturday, December 26, 2020 from COVID-19.
Luella was born May 9, 1930 in Moe Township, to Edwin and Mabel (Severson) Olson. Luella graduated in 1948, from Central High School as one of “The Great Class of 48”. She started working for Fluegal Motor Co. 3 days later. In 1952 Luella and 2 friends moved to Boulder, CO. where they lived and worked until 1954, when Luella moved back to Alexandria.
Luella married Otto Vendell on August 1, 1954 at First Lutheran Church, they were married for 61 years. Luella worked as a bookkeeper for Trosdahl Linoleum, Alexandria Boat Works and with the Child Support System at the Douglas County Courthhouse, she retired in 1996.
Luella loved to sew and do embroidery work, she made many quilts and entered many craft projects at the Douglas County Fair. She was an avid bowler and a big Twins fan. She loved to cheer for the Alexandria Cardinals Basketball teams and the Alex Clippers. Luella and Otto loved to dance, they met at a dance at the Armory and spent many Friday nights dancing at the VFW or in their kitchen whenever old time music was on the radio or TV.
Luella is survived by her children, Cheryl Johnson, Hatton, ND; Diane (John) Fearneyhough, Hatton, ND and Mark (Sarah) Vendell, Alexandria, MN; Grandchildren: Stacey (John) Jacobson; Patrick Johnson; Lindsey (Jon) Bommersbach; Jeremy Paulson; Kyle (Angela) Paulson; Casey (Becca) Paulson; and Dominic Vendell; Great Grandchildren: Sydney, Chance and Zane Jacobson, Rylee and Logan Paulson, Ava and Otto Bommersbach; and Jacksyn Paulson; Brother: Vernon Olson; Sisters-in-Law: Bonnie Vendel and Alice Weiman.
Preceding her in death were her husband Otto, Parents Edwin and Mabel Olson, Sister Mayme Olson and infant twins James and Jerome Vendell; Brothers-in-Law: Robert Vendell, Robert Bundy, and Bud Weiman, Sisters-in-Law: Mickey Seivert and Ruby Olson; Nieces: Susan Quiram and Sandra Effertz; Nephews: Randy Olson and Nick Weiman.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 9, 2021, 2:00 p.m. at Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria, with a visitation one-hour prior. This service will be live-streamed and recorded for family and friends to view from Luella’s obituary page on the Anderson Funeral Home website at 2 PM on Saturday. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery. Due to COVID-19 health mandates, everyone will be required to social distance and wearing of facial coverings.
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials.
