LuVerne (Lu) Joan Bokinskie died at Knute Nelson Nursing Home in Alexandria on January, 1st, 2016 after suffering a stroke in her home on Tuesday, December 29th. LuVerne was born on March 13th, 1933 in Sauk Centre, MN to Pete and Dorris Jennissen. She graduated from Sauk Centre High School in 1951 where she was homecoming queen. In December of 1953 Lu married Eugene Bokinskie and they shared 55 years of marriage together. Lu and Eugene celebrated the birth of their only son, Chuck Bokinskie, on April 27th, 1954. She enjoyed being active and involved as she watched her grandchildren, Corey and Christen, grow up in Alexandria, MN.
Coast to Coast Hardware store in Long Prairie was Lu’s place of employment for a period of time and then she continued her professional career at Hart’s Press in Long Prairie for 35 years before retiring. She enjoyed keeping an immaculate yard and garden, and was always privy to the latest sales happening at Herberger’s.
Lu is survived by her son Chuck Bokinskie and his wife Carol. Her grandchildren Corey and Stacie Bokinskie and great grandchildren Elle and Lexi. Christen Hull and her husband Josh and great grandchildren Kaylee, Grace and Wesley. Her sisters Vi Weibolt, Dorothy Ann (husband Joe), Elaine Koester (husband Don), brother Clifford (wife Janet), sister in laws Dorothy Jennissen, Marlene Jennissen, Cheryl Jennissen and Denise Jennissen.
Lu is preceded in death by her husband Eugene Bokinskie, parents Pete and Dorris Jennissen, brothers Francis Jennissen, Ray Jennissen and Pete Jennissen Jr.
Celebration of life ceremony will be held at St. Mary of Mount Carmel Parish Church in Long Prairie, MN at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 8th with a visitation one hour prior to the ceremony at the church. A celebration of life reception will be held at Thunder Lodge in Long Prairie, MN following the ceremony.
