Marcella Undlin

September 25, 1919 — January 9, 1943

Marcella D. Undlin was born September 25, 1919 in Alexandria, MN, to Theodore and Elaine (Kitzke) Grube. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Faith in Alexandria. She graduated from Alexandria High School in 1937 and attended St Olaf College and the Minnesota School of Business. She had taken voice lessons in high school in Alexandria, from teacher Gretchen Steiler, at St. Olaf College and McPhail School of Music in Minneapolis. Lutheran Brotherhood Life Insurance Company employed her once she had finished her schooling. During this time she met, and became engaged to, James H. Undlin of Madison, MN. He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps, and was stationed in San Diego. Marcy and Jim were married at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in San Diego, on January 9, 1943. Jim was with Intelligence and Communications in the U. S. Marine Corp and was sent overseas to the South Pacific Area. Marcy remained in San Diego and was employed by the U. S. Corps of Engineers. With Jim?s return from overseas, they moved to Ontario, OR in 1946 for his employment. Marcy was employed by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, first with the Regional Office of the Soil Conservation Service and then with the Five State Headquarter Office of Commodity Credit Corporation. Wherever they lived, Marcy sang in the church choirs and musical organizations, including a trio in Portland, OR. A number of years later, they moved to Boise, ID, where Jim was transferred. Marcy became interested in learning and playing golf, which they both could enjoy. They belonged to Crane Creek Country Club. In 1968, Jim was transferred to Littleton, CO, a suburb of Denver. At this time, Marcy was very involved in golf and the Ladies Golf Association. They belonged to Columbine Country Club. Jim retired while living in Littleton, and they moved to Green Valley, AZ. Marcy signed up for art classes in painting with oils. It was a very interesting and challenging art field. She gave most of her paintings to relatives. In Green Valley, they were members of the Desert Hills Lutheran Church where she would volunteer at the church office. After Jim's death, Marcy moved back to Alexandria, to be close to relatives. She lived independently at Windmill Ponds until health problems caused her to move to the Bethany Community. On Friday, March 13, 2009 Marcy died at the age of eighty-nine years. Marcy was preceded in death by her husband, Jim, on April 17,2002; her parents; and her brother, Donald Grube. She is survived by her brothers-in-law, Charles T. (Lois) Undlin, Rapid City, SD and Green Valley, AZ and Robert (Kathy) Undlin, Albertville, MN; sisters-in-law, Norma Larsen, Madison, MN and Beth Odden, Miltona, MN; several cousins; thirteen nieces and nephews; and many great nieces and nephews. Marcy had a very close relationship with her nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 1 PM, Wednesday, March 18, 2009 at the Bethany Home Chapel in Alexandria. Rev. Andrea Olson will officiate. Interment will be in the Desert Hills Columbarium at Desert Hills Lutheran Church in Green Valley, AZ. Visitation is one hour prior to the service.
