Margaret MacLeran passed away, after a short illness, August 27, 2019 at Knute Nelson Care Center in Alexandria, MN.
The eldest of four children, Margaret was born in Wolf Point, MT, on June 21, 1919. Soon after, her family moved to LaGrand Township, MN and that is where she spent her formative years. She graduated from Alexandria High School in 1936. Margaret received her Registered Nurse’s degree from St. Mary’s Hospital in Minneapolis in 1940.
Margaret was one of the first stewardesses to fly for American Airlines; she had many stories to tell about her experiences. In 1943, she married Orville MacLeran, who was a Captain flying for American. Margaret loved to travel and had many interests and hobbies, and seemed to excel at all of them. In 1980, Margaret and Mac retired to Bellevue, WA, where she enjoyed turning their hillside lot into a beautiful garden. She was active mentally and physically for her entire 100 years of life.
Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, Orville MacLeran; parents, Clifford and Lillian (Solem) Hove; and sisters, Gertrude Moreau and Dorothy Bundy. She is survived by her children, Douglas MacLeran, of Bellevue, WA and Thomas MacLeran and wife, Fern, of Nashville, TN; grandson, Thomas MacLeran; sister, Edith Kelly of Alexandria; and her nieces and nephews.
A special thank you to the staff at the Gables, the Care center and Knute Nelson Hospice
