Margaret Joyce (Dokkebakken) Mattocks was born on May 25, 1928 in Alexandria, MN to Alfred and Karen (Larson) Dokkebakken. She attended country school in rural Forada through the eighth grade. Margaret then worked at a wide variety of different jobs, working at the creamery and the telephone company in Alexandria and numerous different cafes in Carlos and Parkers Prairie. Margaret was united in marriage to Donald Mattocks in 1947 in Alexandria. To this union the couple was blessed with seven children. The family lived in Carlos where Donald owned Mattocks Garage, working on cars. Margaret helped him with the bookwork, and also as a cook at Sportsman?s Inn in Carlos. The couple was divorced in 1976. Margaret then worked at Knute Nelson as a cook for sixteen years until she retired at the age of 65. After retirement Margaret was a senior companion for the Lutheran Social Services for two years, and was a member of the VFW ladies auxiliary. In 2004, she moved to the Viking Towers in Alexandria and in 2006 she moved to Knute Nelson. Margaret enjoyed putting on a big Sunday meal, hosting Christmas and Thanksgiving and dressing up for Halloween. She also loved to play Yahtzee, do embroidery, circle word puzzles, canning, playing violin and accordion and loved to listen to Jimmy Jensen. Margaret died on Saturday, March 28, 2009 at the Douglas County Hospital in Alexandria at the age of 80. She is survived by her sons, Gaylerd (Sharon) of Carlos, Steve of Miltona, Corrie (Diane) of Carlos, Brad (Judy) of Evansville, Terry of Cold Spring, and Tom (Gail Beauchesne) of St. Cloud; daughter, Mary Jo Lindsey of Pasco, WA; grandchildren, Ryan, Scott, Randi, Sara, Christopher, Alissa, Deven, Melinda, Kayla, Jenna, Brittany, Justin, Colin, Tara, Cameron, Brandon, Madey, Joette and Laralee; and several great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Margaret is preceded in death by her parents, Alfred and Karen; brothers, Willard and Wallace; and sisters, Leona Williams and Leila Meyer; and grandsons, Shawn and Marshall. A funeral service was held on Tuesday, March 31, 2009 at the Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria with lay minister, Philip Petersen officiating. Interment was held in the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Carlos. Casket bearers were Corrie Mattocks, Brad Mattocks, Scott Mattocks, Kayla Mattocks, Jenna Mattocks, and Randi Lindsey. Honorary casket bearers were Deven Anderson and Christopher Truax. Arrangements are with the Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria.
