OBITUARY
Marguerite Lynn Heglund was born in Chicago, IL, April 6, 1947, the daughter of Willard Heglund and Fern (Hoglund) Heglund.
She was raised on the family farm near Raymond, MN, and attended District 802, a rural one-room school house through the eighth grade, graduating from Raymond High School in 1965. She was active in choir, played piano for the choir, and participated in 4-H. Following graduation, Marguerite moved to Minneapolis and worked at Sweden House where she met Roger, the love of her life.
On November 6, 1965, Marguerite married Roger Peterson at First Baptist Church in Willmar, MN. They raised four sons, Joel, Jeffery, Jason, and Jerrod. In the early years, Roger and Marguerite resided on Eagle Lake outside of Willmar, MN, and Villard, MN. In 1974, they relocated to Alexandria, MN to manage several restaurants including Roger’s Steakout and Mexican Restaurant. They moved to Fergus Falls in 1991, and in 1992, they moved to Aberdeen, SD, where they owned and operated Steak & Buffet until 2008. Marguerite’s specialty was desserts and pies. Marguerite later worked for Northern State University as a baker, taking pride in the cookies, muffins, and desserts she made for the entire campus. In 2011, they returned to Alexandria and retired from the food service business.
No matter where their family lived, Marguerite made every house a home. She kept busy chasing four boys, taking them to practices, and attending their sporting events. Many times, she and Roger packed up their boys and drove hundreds of miles, just to try a new restaurant. Marguerite loved the outdoors, fishing, hunting, and taking drives in the country. She especially liked to fuss over the Peterson boys preparing food for their hunting trips. Marguerite is remembered for her faith in Jesus Christ her Savior, her love of pretty things, playing piano, gardening, canning, her passion for cooking and baking, and the importance of faith and family. For both Marguerite and Roger, their boys and families were their life. Roger often asked, “Ma, did you talk to the boys today?”
Marguerite had a special love for her parents. Her mother, Fern; who at age 98, still shares her wisdom, guidance, and prayers to support their family. Her brothers, Mike and Roger; and sister, Robi meant the world to her, and she cherished her relationship with them growing up and all through life. Marguerite often talked about that her handprints are still on the dash of her brother Mike’s 1969 Roadrunner. Although he was younger than her, he was her rock and protector. Marguerite also had a special relationship with her brother, Roger as he could always brighten her day with a laugh. Robi will always be her cherished little sister whose grace and love will be with her forever.
Marguerite and Roger were members of First Baptist Church in Alexandria and First Baptist Church in Aberdeen.
Recently, she attended Alexandria Covenant Church where she enjoyed her prayer and coffee groups with a wonderful group of women that she cherished getting to know.
Marguerite passed away at St. Cloud Hospital surrounded by her family on Saturday, March 12, 2016 at the age of 68.
